The four Majors are the tournaments all golfers hope to win one day. The Open Championship, The US Open, The Masters and the PGA Championship garner all the attention of fans and players.
Only five have completed the career Grand Slam.
Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods won all four major championships.
GETS Golf has a look at current players who have the best chance of completing this feat.
1. Rory McIlroy
Current Majors:
PGA Championship (2012, 2014)
US Open (2011)
Open Championship (2014)
Looking for: The Masters
Prediction: While McIlroy is still an elite player, his repeated near-misses at the Masters and of late not even contending in the tournament with some mis cuts thrown in. His advancing age make it unlikely he’ll achieve the Grand Slam. We do believe he will ad dother Majors to his collection.
2. Phil Mickelson
Current Majors:
Masters (2004, 2006, 2010)
PGA Championship (2005, 2021)
Open Championship (2013)
Looking for: The US Open
Prediction: At 54, it’s improbable Mickelson will capture the U.S. Open. He set the golfing world alight winning a major over the age of fifty. Phil does thrill but unlikely to win the one he wanted the most.
3. Jordan Spieth
Current Majors:
Masters (2015)
US Open (2015)
Open Championship (2017)
Looking for: The PGA Championship
Prediction: Spieth’s regression since his peak years and the nature of PGA Championship courses make it difficult to see him winning the PGA. Maybe his best chance will come in his home state in 2027.
4. Jon Rahm
Current Majors:
Masters (2023)
US Open (2021)
Looking for: The PGA Championship and The Open Championship
Prediction: Rahm’s performance in the majors has been strong, but the PGA Championship has been a challenge. He’s likely to add to his major tally, though he might not secure all four. Coupled with the fact he plies his trade on the LIV Tour.
5. Brooks Koepka
Current Majors:
PGA Championship (2018, 2019, 2023)
US Open (2017, 2018)
Looking for: The Masters and The Open Championship
Prediction: Koepka’s strengths in the majors and his near-misses in the Masters suggest he could win a Masters but might struggle with the Open Championship.
6. Collin Morikawa
Current Majors:
PGA Championship (2020)
Open Championship (2021)
Looking for: The Masters and The US Open
Prediction: His accuracy and approach play are excellent, but the U.S. Open and Masters are tough challenges. Winning all four majors seems ambitious but not impossible.
He could add The Masters to his current collection.
6. Xander Schauffele
Current Majors:
PGA Championship (2024)
Open Championship (2024)
Looking for: The Masters and The US Open
Prediction: Would not have guessed he would be in this discussion three months ago.Likely to add more Major victories all four seems unlikely.
7. Scottie Scheffler
Current Majors:
Masters (2022, 2024)
Looking for: The PGA Championship, The US Open and The Open Championship
Prediction: Scheffler’s consistent high-level performance and age give him a strong chance to complete the Grand Slam. But three different ones makes it a long way off. We can imagine many many more Majors in the future but will he capture all four?
8. Bryson DeChambeau
Current Majors:
US Open (2020, 2024)
Looking for: The Masters, The PGA Championship and The Open Championship
Prediction: His unique style makes it challenging/unlikely to win all four, but he could still win more.
